SRW Incineration and High Force Compacting Facilities for Waste Treatment Centre at Akkuyu NPP

NUKEM was contracted to design and supply Solid Radioactive Waste (SRW) Incineration and High Force Compacting Facilities for the Waste Treatment Centre 00UKS to be built at Akkuyu NPP in Turkey.

The waste treatment centre will allow processing all types of low and intermediate level SRW to be generated at the new-build Akkuyu NPP. Thermal and mechanical techniques will be deployed to decrease the volume of waste to be further conditioned into a state suitable for final disposal.

NUKEM supplies the technology of a new 25kg/h incinerator to be equipped with relevant auxiliary equipment incl. radiation and chemical monitoring system to utilise the combustible SRW. In cooperation with the Client (NIKIMT-Atomstroy), the equipment supply chain will be optimised to meet the specific project criteria (combination of EU and Russian norms & standards), meanwhile NUKEM remains fully responsible for the design and functionality of the Facility.

NUKEM also supplies a 2.000t compactor, including control system. The compactor is equipped with an automatic drum feeding system and an integrated transport system to bring the pellets to the transfer position. The through-type compactor allows loading the compactor and removing the pellets in one single step with a throughput of 6 drums per hour.

• Basic und Detail Design,
• Coordination of building interfaces,
• Procurement of equipment,
• Delivery to Client (NIKIMT-AS, Moscow)
• Installation and commissioning supervision at Akkuyu NPP site.
