Preliminary study for the economic solution of a material treatment (WILMA) at the Beznau nuclear power plant site (KKB)

30 November -0001

Contract

With the early decommissioning project KKB, the available preparation time until the final decommissioning of the KKB is to be used to identify and realise optimisation potentials in post-operation, dismantling and disposal of the radioactive waste.

Description

Subject of the contract is the preparation of a preliminary study for the conceptual design of the economic solution for material treatment (WILMA) required for the decommissioning of the Beznau nuclear power plant in two variants:

Services

Material treatment centre (MTC): Installation of the material treatment in a new MTC to be erected within the plant area including a processing possibility for large components and the possibility to integrate necessary replacement systems for decommissioning (e.g. waste water treatment) into the MTC.
Rip & Ship plus (RS+): In the minimum required material treatment to be set up on site, dismantled plant components are to be treated and released directly from the controlled zone with low decontamination efforts. Plant components where a higher decontamination effort is required are to be disassembled and packaged within the controlled zone so that they can be shipped to an external treatment.
For both variants, the detailed information on the different materials provided by AXPO was analysed and the material flows were assigned to appropriate decontamination procedures. Based on these results, the material treatment was planned for both variants with the aim of achieving the highest possible release quantities and evaluated in terms of the financial and time expenditure for the procedures. The raw data thus generated are used by AXPO for further planning.
