Alzenau, 6th November 2018. NUKEM Technologies Engineering Services GmbH (NUKEM) has been tasked with the design development and supply of process equipment for a waste treatment centre to be built at Khmelnitsky NPP in Ukraine. This effort will help to ensure that the radioactive waste both currently in storage and to be generated at Khmelnitsky NPP is disposed of in a safe and environmentally sound manner.

The project comprises an incineration facility with emission monitoring system and a compacting facility. The waste treatment centre will allow processing all types of low and intermediate level solid waste generated at Khmelnitsky NPP. Thermal and mechanical size reduction techniques will be deployed to decrease the volume of waste to be further conditioned into a state suitable for final disposal. The technical concept for waste management is based on NUKEM’s proven technologies. The elaboration of the design documentation package will be followed by procurement of components, on-site installation supervision and commissioning. The waste treatment centre is slated for completion in 2020.
