Alzenau, 30th April 2019. In September 2018 NUKEM Technologies (NUKEM) was awarded a contract for the design and supply of the process equipment for the Khmelnitsky NPP in the Ukraine. The new waste treatment centre will now also be fitted out with a NUKEM’s sorting and fragmentation facility.

The contract was signed in November 2018. Through this commitment, NUKEM is contributing to the safe and environmentally friendly disposal of the radiative waste that is currently stored or generated at the Khmelnitsky NPP. Additionally, NUKEM supplies an incineration facility with an emission monitoring system and a super-compactor facility. The waste treatment centre at the Khmelnitsky site is intended to be used for treating all low and intermediate level solid wastes from the nuclear power plant. The waste volume will be reduced by thermal and mechanical treatment processes and the waste will be conditioned so as to be suitable for final disposal. The technical concept for the waste treatment is based on the proven NUKEM’s technologies. After preparing the basic design documents, we will proceed with the detail design and the procurement of the equipment and finally carry out the installation supervision and the commissioning of the facility at the site. The completion of the waste treatment centre is planned for 2020.
