FREMES EcoProbe - Live Demonstration Marks Milestone in Sustainable Soil Remediation

In an exclusive customer event, NUKEM Technologies Engineering Services GmbH, together with its partner Tellux, unveiled the next generation of soil characterization technology: FREMES EcoProbe.
The live demonstration took place at the site of Groupe LHOTELLIER in Alizay, France, and welcomed more than 40 guests from industry, government, and the media. The event showcased the groundbreaking potential of this innovation for large-scale, sustainable remediation of contaminated soils.
A Revolution in Environmental Remediation
Building on the proven capabilities of the FREMES-BM10 system - which has already characterized and classified several hundred thousand tonnes of material worldwide - FREMES EcoProbe introduces fully automated, continuous, and highly precise detection of hydrocarbon contamination in bulk materials. Compared to conventional sampling methods, it enables significantly faster and more accurate classification of contamination levels.
What sets FREMES EcoProbe apart:
- AI-driven optical measurement technology enables high-precision real-time analysis.
- Fully automated operation ensures 100% material throughput with minimal staffing requirements.
- Future-proof design allows for expansion to detect additional contaminants - ideal for complex industrial remediation projects.
Proven Performance in Industrial Conditions
During the live demonstration, approximately 500 tonnes of soil are being analyzed, sorted, and classified under real industrial conditions. By examining 100% of the material, the required amount of microorganisms for biological treatment can be precisely calculated - significantly reducing remediation costs.
The system is used in conjunction with aerobic biopile technology, a biological process in which contaminated soil is treated by microorganisms. The sorted soil is then stored in controlled biopiles, where temperature, moisture, aeration, and nutrients are carefully regulated to maximize the breakdown of pollutants.
A Win for the Environment and the Economy
This eco-friendly and sustainable approach is particularly suitable for industrial sites and brownfields contaminated with organic pollutants. It offers a reliable and cost-effective solution to restore local ecosystems and supports long-term soil health and reuse.
