Sorting and Fragmentation Facility for Waste Treatment Centre at Khmelnitsky NPP in Ukraine

30 November -0001

Contract

NUKEM was contracted to design and supply a sorting and fragmentation facility for the waste treatment centre to be built at Khmelnitsky NPP in Ukraine.

Apart from the sorting and fragmentation facility, NUKEM shall also supply an incineration facility and a high force compactor to NAEK.

Description

The waste treatment centre will allow processing all types of low and intermediate level solid waste generated at Khmelnitsky NPP. Thermal and mechanical techniques will be deployed to decrease the volume of waste to be further conditioned into a state suitable for final disposal.

The sorting and fragmentation facility comprises the container delivery unit, the presorting/ fragmentation/ measurement unit and the sorting box. A sorting station is designed as an in-drum compactor enabling to precompact the waste.

The waste will be sorted according to its further processing („metal waste“, „combustible/non-combustible waste“, „compactable/non-compactable waste“, „free released waste“).

For the purpose of size reduction, mechanical techniques will be applied in the sorting and fragmentation facility.
