On 1 April 2020, NUKEM Technologies celebrates its sixtieth anniversary. Over these past decades, the company has evolved into an international specialist in the areas of management of radioactive waste, decommissioning of nuclear facilities and engineering.

In 1960 the company predecessor was founded - NUKEM Nuklearchemie und Metallurgie GmbH. Its business activities were initially focused on uranium processing and fabrication of fuel elements. At the same time, the company also gained international recognition for its intensive research and development activities. The logical consequence was the development in the 1970s of the new areas of business – nuclear engineering and plant construction.

Despite its longstanding history, NUKEM is ready to open a new chapter in its development. Since last year, the company belongs to the newly founded Backend Division of ROSATOM. The goal of this new corporate unit is to bundle the expertise from the radwaste management and decommissioning areas.

"NUKEM’s contribution to this new unit at ROSATOM will be not only its extensive know-how which has been gained over decades of work in the field, but also its valuable references from successfully implemented projects as well as the trademark, which has a good reputation worldwide", says Thomas Seipolt, Managing Director of NUKEM Technologies.
